Tech Resolutions for 2012
By Katie Earley, Content Manager on January 09, 2012
The new year is often filled with lofty goals and numerous resolutions. In addition to the new gym membership and ambitious reading list, take time to set some IT goals for yourself and your company. Here are several small things you can do to make a big difference in the success of your network.

Password Shake Up
Changing your passwords regularly can help keep your personal and business information secure, so start off 2012 with some updated passwords. Steer clear of recognizable words and use a combination of numbers, symbols, and upper and lower case letters. If you haven’t already, you may want to implement a company-wide password policy to mandate regular password changes. Some systems can automate this for you.
Back It Up
If it hasn’t happened to you, you probably know someone who, through freak accident or epic computer meltdown, has lost it all. Whether you prefer an external hard drive or many of the online backup options available, like Carbonite, it’s important to back up your documents early and often.
Stay Up-to-Date
It can be easy to ignore all the software updates that pop up when you start your computer, but ignoring critical updates for too long can slow down your system and make it vulnerable to malware. Of all the software to keep updated, your virus protection is most important. Also, emptying your temporary Internet files (or “cookies”) once a week can keep your computer running at top speed and help prevent viruses from attacking your computer.
Keep the Public In The Know
Has one of your top employees been with the company for a year but still has no recognition on your website’s company directory? Make sure to keep the content on your website up-to-date. It can provide your clients with important information and make a positive impression on potential clients.
It’s easy to get overwhelmed by too many goals and promises at the start of the year. However, taking care of your computer can make for a smoother work day year-round and prevent expensive malfunctions down the road.
From your friends at RFX Technologies, we wish you a happy and prosperous 2012!
